Our Biography

My wife and I are Landscape, Nature & Wildlife Photographers. We enjoy being out in nature with the animals, capturing them for others to enjoy. I hold a certificate in digital photography from ACL received through Harvard University.

We love photography because photographs have the magical ability to move people in such a way that they can be transported, in an instant, to that place, have you feel the feelings, and understand the statement or the story that the photograph is telling, just by looking at it.

Photography is our way of artistically expressing ourselves. I have been making pictures since I was 13 and enjoy the hunt of a great view and the excitement of pursuing the light.

My wife, Twyla has been making photographs for many years now and animals are her passion, which is why you will always find her the happiest when she is around them and behind the lens capturing their personalities.

I was born in Seattle, Washington and I grew up in the Seattle, Puget Sound area. As a pre-teen I remember using my first camera; it was a Kodak Hawkeye Instamatic II camera with the little square throw away flash cubes.

Then in my teens, my brother in-law gave me my first 35mm SLR film camera. That opened the world of photography for me and really is what got me interested and addicted to photography. I shot that camera for many years until the advent of the digital camera, which for me supercharged my photography hobby. I had a small point and shoot digital camera for a few years and then splurged on a Canon Rebel XT SLR Digital camera. Which I shot for 4 or 5 years then I purchased a Canon 50D SLR Digital camera. And then finally my first full frame Digital camera, a Canon 5D MKIII.

A little about our equipment: Currently I use a Canon EOS R6, a fully digital, full-frame, mirrorless camera. I have used digital SLR cameras for over 20 years; and now I shoot fully mirrorless. My backup camera is the Canon EOS 5D MKIII I use a variety of zoom & fixed lenses ranging from 10mm to 400mm. I most often use a Canon EF 100-400mm f4, Canon EF 70-200mm f 2.8, Canon RF 24-105mm or a Canon EF 16-35mm 1:3 5-4.5.

We both shoot in RAW format and develop our images with Adobe Light Room Software. On occasion, we also use Adobe Photoshop as part of our workflow as well as Topaz Labs software.

Twyla currently uses a Canon EOS 7D, a fully digital, SLR camera. She uses a variety of zoom lenses ranging from 12mm to 600mm. She most often use a Sigma 150-600mm f4, Canon EF 70-200mm f 4.5, Canon RF 24-105mm or a Canon EF 16-35mm 1:3 5-4.5.

About our photographs: W blend modern and classical photographic techniques. Digital capture is used and the 'digital darkroom' is then used to recreate the power and feel of the natural scene. Digital techniques are used to overcome the limitations of prints and to recapture the color, the sharpness, and the interplay of tonalities and colors that were present in the original scene. The only exception to this are portraits, and our artistically rendered photographs including HDR images.

The final printing is commercially processed which utilizes the latest digital enlarger that produces powerful photographic prints that will, with proper care, last a lifetime. Outdoor scenes were shot using available light, without flash with the exception of some portraits.
